Women of the Restoration: A Relief Society Activity

RS activity idea with free printables and templates

RELIEF SOCIETY

1/8/20253 min read

With the 2025 Come Follow Me study of the Doctrine and Covenants, this activity is perfect to celebrate women of the restoration.

Activity Suggestions

You'll want to tailor this activity to the needs and interests of your sisters. Here are some ideas generously shared by other sisters:

  • Ask 3 sisters to present at the activity. The first sister chooses a story of a sister who helped during the formation of the church in the 1830's. The second sister shares a story from a female ancestor who was a member of the church. The third sister shares a story from her own life. Each story should be a faith building experience and show how they are women of the restoration. This activity shows that we are all women of the restoration and we can help, love, and encourage each other as we build Zion.

  • You could change the above activity and only focus on one of the group of women. For example, only focus on ancestors of the sisters in your Relief Society, etc.

  • Have a potluck and ask sisters to bring foods that would have been brought to a church potluck in the 1830's.

  • To decorate use cloth table cloths and decorate with 1830 style figurines, flower arrangements, crochet doilies, framed photos, etc.

  • Create a "framed" silhouette portrait of each sister. See details below.

Silhouette Portraits

There are many ways to create silhouette portraits, here is my favorite method of creating them:

Materials Needed

  • Phone camera

  • Laptop

  • Printer

  • Card stock & regular paper

  • Glue sticks

Instructions

  • Click HERE to print a portrait frame on 8.5 x 11 card stock, one for each sister

  • Take a profile photo of each sister as she arrives to the activity. Use a solid dark background to make editing easier.

  • Upload the image to Canva and use the background remover. Do any touch-ups necessary.

  • Use duotone to change the silhouette to a black color

  • Print each silhouette out and have the sister cut it out

  • Glue the silhouette to the frame print out
